Tasters Guild International, a Wine and Food Appreciation Society based in Grand Rapids, Michigan with administrative offices in Washington D.C., has announced the results of its Twenty-Third Annual International Wine Judging held at the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education in Grand Rapids.
Aeon Winery located in McMinnville, Oregon was awarded a prestigious Silver Medal Award for its 2007 Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir. This is the second major award that Aeon”s inaugural commercial bottling has recieved, having previously recieved a Silver Medal at the 2009 Oregon State Fair
Bright ruby color, with characteristic aromas of earthy spice and dark, sweet cherries, the wine has a velvety mouthfeel balancing soft tannins, toasted oak and crisp acidity. Sweet, subtle and delicious, Aeon 2007 Pinot Noir drinks beautifully now but will develop for the next 5 years.
Thirty experienced judges from around the country completed over 2,200 evaluations of wine from 10 countries and 32 states/provinces on April 28-May 1. The judging panels were comprised of a carefully selected mix of retailers, winemakers, wine writers, restaurateurs and experienced consumers. As part of the total wine evaluation process, nearly 40% of the wines entered were randomly chosen for reevaluation to verify the accuracy and fairness of medal consideration.
By sponsoring this wine judging event, it is the objective of Tasters Guild to give the consumer a reference point in choosing quality wine values,” explains Tasters Guild President, Joe Borrello. “Tasters Guild recommends any wine judging results or tasting evaluations be used only as an informational guide in establishing personal preferences. However, with our reevaluation procedure, we take extra precaution to appraise the wines as accurately as possible.”
